SOUTH ROUTE H.O.G. RIDE 7-17-10

Saturday, 7-17-10, the Red River Chapter of H.O.G., had the South Route Ride. September 2-5, 2010, Red River Harley Davidson is hosting the 2010 Texas State H.O.G. Rally and during the rally they will be having rides to the North, South, East & West.. Russ is the Ride Captain for the South route, so, we got together at Red River Harley Davidson and rode the South Route. Scroll down and join us on this ride and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE..

Here is Russ's bike, The Iceman" as Russ has named it. He calls it the Iceman because the paint job on the bottom half of the bike is "black ice" that turns from blue to purple in the sunlight. It's definitely a nice looking Harley.

Russ checks in as I get ready to go. He had ridden over to get me..

I get my Harley out of the garage and we set out for Red River Harley Davidson, the staging area for today's ride.

Some of the other bikes at RRHD.

This is Lori, A.J.'s wife. She will be riding with A.J.. He was parking his Harley when I took Lori's picture.

Here is A.J. parking his bike at RRHD

This is Robert, co Ride Captain on today's ride.

Left to right inside RRHD are: Russ, Debbie, Leland and Matt.

Matt, who is not yet a H.O.G. member, signs the ride waiver as Russ looks on.

Matt & me inside RRHD. Matt works with my son-in-law, Matt, for the WFISD taking care of the computers

Here is one of the hard working sales persons' in Motor Clothes, Ginger. She is a lot of fun and knows her stuff. If you can't find something there, she will either find it for you or tell you where to go to get it

Although I like everyone at RRHD, I do have my favorites and Wendi, is my favorite sales person there at RRHD. She is always smiling and also knows that department inside out. Here she is as we get ready to head out on the ride. For more on the Red River Harley Davidson dealership here in Wichita Falls, Texas, see this link: http://www.redriverharley-davidson.com/

Russ gives the ride briefing. To Russ's left are Leland, Debbie, and Leeann

Left to right: Bob, Russ, Torry, Lori, A.J., Michael, and Brad. Brad will be the Ride Captain on the East Route.

A customer sneaks by as we get briefed by Russ. In this pic are: the customer crouching down as she walks thru, Leeann, Bob & Johnny

We head out to the bikes to get ready to go. Here is A.J. on his bike and ready..

Matt swings around to join the formation as Leslie & Kenny walk out to their bike

Russ gets a head count as the riders line up.

Kenny & Leslie are ready to go and are heading to join the formation

The riders line up. A.J. & Lori are ready to go.

Russ checks the flag. Looks like we have a slight wind out of the Southwest

And we head out. Russ in the lead heads North on US287.

The riders behind me. I am riding in the 2nd slot, and Kenny & Leslie are right behind me

A shot, from the foot board level back, at the riders. Kenny & Leslie are right behind me in the inside lane.

Russ up front and Kenny & the others can be seen in the rear view mirror

Russ as we head down Sisk Rd.

The others as we head South on Sisk Rd

Kenny closes the gap between Russ and the riders behind.

We were cruising along at a comfortable 60 mph or so.

The formation looks good and the intervals look right.

We were riding in the staggered formation.

Russ up front as we approach Cottonwood Rd, one of the many dirt & gravel roads we would pass today..

We make it to stop #1, in Olney Texas. I have my blue ice chest strapped on my bike. Although the weather was too bad right now, it was supposed to get hot in a couple hours and we'd be out in it. Parked next to my Harley is Russ's Harley, a 2010 Limited Edition Ultra Classic with all the "bells & whistles".

Some of the good looking bikes on today's ride.

Some of the bikes on today's ride.

Another bike on today's ride

I think this is Leland & Debbie's Harley

This is the Road king I was looking at when I found my Harley. I love this color combination. Several of my former rides were blue & grey

Some of the riders were topping off the tanks.

Another new Road King. Harley is sure coming out with some great looking bikes.

Matt and his bike. He has put over 5,000 miles on it since buying it a month or so ago. He rides it as much as the other guy who sold it to him. Any of you recognize his bike? We were glad to have Matt on this ride.

Michael pulls his bike around the gas pumps to get lined up with the other bikes.

Kenny & Leslie are long time friends. We've been friends since the early '80s. There a a great couple and I value their friendship.

This is Buck & Cathy at the 1st stop in Olney Texas

We hang around and wait for others to gas up.

Debbie and Leland stand in the shade as Brad stands next to his bikes

Everyone is in a good mood on this ride.

Brad stands by his new Harley Road King as we prepare to head to Breckenridge Texas and lunch.

Randall standing by his bike

Billie & Diana as we get ready to leave Olney Texas

Diana & Scott as we get ready to leave Olney Texas

We depart Olney and head South. Here we are approaching the famous Brazos River

The Brazos River is muddy today.

Formation is looking good and the clouds become nonexistant. Kenny still in close..

The mirror shot of the formation as we close in on Breckenridge Texas

Russ in the lead and the others in the mirror shot. I talked to Kenny later and he said he had to drop back when we started up a hill because when I throttled up, it got a little loud. (I have those Vance & Hines Shorts on the Heritage)

We make another quick stop. Here is Russ by his Harley, "The Iceman"

Russ does a semi Captain Morgan stance..

We head out again on the road to Breckenridge Texas
Russ leads us on and we drive on this freshly laid gravel road. Had to watch the speed because you didn't want to throw up any loose gravel and have it hit the bike behind you.

We come to a stop because of road construction. We were told we would be here 15-20 minutes.

This is Joe. He told us about the construction ahead.

The bright sun and heat set some of the riders off... Kenny and Robert watch the antics...

Leslie checks things out while the others mingle..

Michael & Torry are having a good time. Here is Torry getting some ice out of the ice chest for her bottle

About 15 minutes later they cleared us thru. The formation was such that the riders in the left rode on the road, while those of us on the right, rode down the shoulder.

The view behind shows the split...

We reach the end of the construction area and get back in position on the road. Russ said a rock thrown up by a passing car hit the fairing and it nicked it up so you could see the primary coat of paint on his bike.

The Dam between the Brazos River and Possuum Kingdom on TX16

Russ as we ride thru some scenic areas

We make it to the L & L Family Restaurant in Breckenridge Texas

All the bikes parked and waiting for us to go

Some of the bikes get topped off
Here is A.J. toppng his Harley off

Russ talking to the riders.

Russ talks to the folks and Brad, Michael and Torry listen in among others.

Russ gets a cold drink out of the cooler. Kenny is headin in that direction also. On hot days like today, it's better to have the water and not need it, than it is to need it and not have it. That's why I carry I carry it on my bike...

Gassed up & watered up, Russ heads out and we follow him towards Breckenridge Texas

The group behind me

Kenny behind me, waves as we near TX79

The group from left to right in the L & L Family Restaurant in Breckenridge Texas: Lori, A.J., unk, Torry, Michael, Billie, Randall, unk, Brad, unk, Johnny & Leeann, Robert, Debbie & Leland, Russ, unk, unk, Matt, Leslie & Kenny. If you know who the unknowns (unk) are, please send me an email with their names. I lost my notebook with the names in it. Thankls

Here is Russ inside L & L Family Restaurant. Russ & I go way back. We were in the same Police Academy together in 1977 and have been friends ever since.

That's Matt & Randall at our table. Matt is studying the menu and Randall & I are talking.

This is Michael (turned around looking at me), then Brad (with back to camera), Leland in front of Brad, and A.J. looking at the menu with lori

Facing the camera are: Leland, A.J. & Lori. Backs to camera, left to right: Johnny, Brad and Michael

Matt, looking a little warm, is enjoying the nice air conditioning. It was definitely warming up outside.

Another one of our tables with our riders at the table.

Matt is having a good time.

We head out to the bikes to begin the ride home

One of the guys' stops at Russ's bike to check it out.

More riders go to the cooler on my bike to get a cold bottle of water for the ride home

The L & L Family Restaurant sign out front in Breckenridge Texas

The owner of this bike, a Harley Fat Boy, keeps it covered to protect the paint job from the high temperature, and at this point, it was 102 degrees out side..
